Are you dealing with a specific scenario and aren’t sure what to do?

Different situations need different responses.
Here are some options to address your concerns as an UPstander:
I’m concerned about my friend.
- Talk to your friend to see what’s going on.
- Use safe strategies to address their behavior.
- Talk to mutual friends about how to handle racist statements when you see or hear them.
- Speak to a trusted adult if you’re not sure how to talk to your friend about their posts.
- Think about your friend. Are they someone who leans into offensive humor? Are they showing any other signs that worry you?
- Talk to your friend and find out if they are aware that their jokes have hateful undertones.
- Reason with your friend to stop making jokes that could get them into trouble.
- Talk to a trusted adult.
- If you can, support the person who was hurt.
- Follow up with the first person you told. Ask them if they did anything with the information you shared.

I’m concerned about something I saw online.
- If you know the person, ask them why they posted that content.
- Use safe strategies to address this behavior.
- If you aren’t sure what to do, talk to a trusted adult.
- If you don’t know the person, report the post or account to the social media platform

- If you know the person, start a conversation to see what’s going on.
- Report and block accounts and posts that are sharing upsetting content.
- Talk to a trusted adult about setting healthy boundaries online.
- Actively seek out positive content that’s more related to your interests.
- Engage with positive content to boost its reach.
- Report the post to the social media platform.
- Support the person who was bullied.
- If you feel safe, say something to the bully.
- If you know this person IRL, include them in activities at school or after school so they feel less alone.
